U.K. Stocks Finish Lower, FTSE 100 Index Falls

The U.K. stock market closed lower on Monday, with the FTSE 100 Index dropping 0.78% to 7,623.99.

Biggest Decreases in FTSE 100 Constituents

Among the FTSE 100 constituents, Entain PLC, a gambling industries company, experienced the largest decrease as its shares tumbled 13.07%. The tobacco firm Imperial Brands PLC and food retail company Ocado Group PLC also saw significant declines of 5.67% and 4.95% respectively. Clothing company Burberry Group PLC and tobacco firm British American Tobacco PLC rounded out the top five, with their stocks declining by 4.51% and 3.25% respectively.

Largest Increase in FTSE 100 Constituents

CRH PLC, a building materials/products company, experienced the largest increase among FTSE 100 constituents with shares climbing 5.11% on Monday. Biotechnology firm AstraZeneca PLC and wholesalers company Ferguson PLC also had positive gains of 1.34% and 1.27% respectively. Pershing Square Holdings Ltd., a closed-end funds company, and residential building construction company Barratt Developments PLC completed the top five with gains of 1.07% and 0.96% respectively.

Currency and Commodity Market Update

The pound was down 0.21% against the dollar at $1.2215 and up 0.31% against the euro at €1.1533.

Brent crude oil prices dropped by 0.4% to $91.63, while the yield on the 10-year gilt increased by 8.310 basis points to 4.334%.
